Laverty Laps the Lough

dsc003172After a long break between races Eugene decided to jump start the final part of his season and challenge himself and a few of his friends to do the cycling event known as Lap of The Lough. The event aims to encourage as many cyclists to do 1 lap (140km approximately) of Lough Neagh.  Lough Neagh is the largest lake in Ireland and Britain and the 3rd largest in Western Europe. At over 35km long and 20km wide needless to say it’s quite a water feature.  The Event leaves from Kinnego harbour.  From there the route heads toward Maghery, Ardboe, Ballyronan, Toome, Randalstown, Antrim, Glenavy and back to Kinnego.

Eugene  said “ I’ve wanted to do The Lap of the Lough for the past few years but I’ve never been at home and so I jumped at the chance to do it this year as it fell on the Sunday before I headed off to Nurburgring.  I started the event with three of my friends and we all really enjoyed it but after four hours of hard riding we were pretty tired!  The heavens opened with 20km to go but that failed to dampen our spirits, it was one of the most fun days I’ve had on my bicycle.”

Eugene now heads to Germany to race at the legendary Nurburgring on Sunday 6th  September.
